Location of Work: Health Hub, Pikangikum First Nation, ON
Hours of Work: Business Days from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Position Summary:
Located in Pikangikum First Nation, a community of 4,000 people living in beautiful, remote Northern Ontario, the Finance Support will work and report to Director of Finance under the direction of the Pikangikum Health Authority (PHA).
Finance Support will support and communicate the PHA health goals and objectives by ensuring functional facilities, training, processes, system and resources to effectively and efficiently carry out programs and services and ensuring comprehensive and quality health services to the community.
Finance Support will conduct or direct the day to day financial administration and bookkeeping functions, including accounts payable, account receivable, general ledger, payroll and benefits administration in accordance with the financial policies and procedures of the PHA
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Accounting Systems and Record Maintenance
- Maintain a chart of accounts that is user friendly
- Obtain and maintain accounting program updates
- Conduct daily and weekly data back up
- Maintain source documentation relating to all financial transactions
- Maintain employee compensation details
Bookkeeping Functions
- Complete monthly bank reconciliation on a timely basis
- Monitor, verify and reconcile payable and receivable accounts
- Monitor cash flow statements from funding agencies and reconcile to funding received
- Prepare and post all journal entries
- Prepare and enter accounts payable transactions
- Prepare and enter deposits
- Maintain secure purchase order systems
Skills needed for success
- Cooperative attitude
- Proven experience with filing and computerized accounting systems Basic knowledge to interpret financial data
- Knowledge of government funding
- Understanding of local customs, culture and language Organized work habits
- Good communication skills and ability to work independently Willingness to undertake additional training
- Must be able to manage time effectively and maintain schedules. Must be courteous and prompt and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and act according to directions.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proven computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Ability to work flexible hours and be accessible
- High level of personal integrity
- Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional appearance and manners.
Conditions of Employment
- Manual dexterity is required to use desktop computers and peripherals.
- Overtime as required.
- Weekend work may be required.

Term: Full-Time Position
Salary: Dependent on qualifications and experience
Hours: Business Days 9:00 am to 5:00 pm – 35 hours a week
