Position Description

The Pikangikum Health Authority (PHA) is seeking expressions of interest from compassionate and dedicated Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to join our Home and Community Care (HCC) team in Pikangikum First Nation. This is an excellent opportunity to provide essential care services in a remote, culturally rich community and to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our clients.

Under the direction of the Home and Community Care Nurse, the PSW will provide personal care, companionship, and assistance with daily living activities to clients, ensuring they can remain safely and comfortably in their homes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal care services, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and positioning
  • Support clients with light household duties, meal preparation, and errands
  • Monitor and report changes in client health and well-being to the supervising nurse
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care provided
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to clients
  • Collaborate with the Home and Community Care team to follow individualized care plans
  • Assist in the provision of palliative care services as needed

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Personal Support Worker Certificate or equivalent training
  • Experience working in home care or community health settings is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a care team
  • Sensitivity to the cultural values and needs of Indigenous communities
  • Physical ability to assist clients with mobility and perform light household duties
  • Willingness to travel via small aircraft, off-road vehicles, or boat as required
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check
