Business Days from 3:00pm to 8:00pm
(Dates to be determined – 5 hours a day)
Position Summary:
Located in Pikangikum First Nation, a community of 4,000 people living in beautiful, remote Northern Ontario, the Youth Hub Manager will work and report to the Chief
Operating Manager under the direction of the Pikangikum Health Authority (PHA).
The Youth Hub Support reports to and will work closely with the Youth Hub Manager and is responsible for the implementation of creative age-appropriate programs that develop an inclusive environment for children and youth users. The role is also involved in assisting children/youth find resources they are relevant to personal or academic
programs.
The objective of the program funded by the Ministry of Attorney General’s Office Victim Services include:
- Enhance victim safety.
- Increase victim empowerment.
- Increase victim access and participation in victim services.
- Enhance victim participation in the criminal justice system.
- Provide Mental Health Support Services to community members who require
intervention and support.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide insight on what types of activities would be beneficial and enjoyable for community youth (both indoors and outdoors)
- Aid in the planning of activities, taking into account the need to book rooms or areas
- Provide ideas to the Youth Hub Manager on new programs or activities that can be implemented – program ideas can include arts, crafts, music, exercise, games, etc.
- Assist the youth in attending and participating in activities
- Assist the youth in returning home if required
- Supervise the youth during activities, ensuring that enjoyment and safety are achieved
- Modify activities to suit the individual capabilities of the youth wanting to participate
- Prepare for activities by organizing and setting out equipment and supplies required to complete the activities
- Ensure the safety of all when they are participating in activities outside of the Youth Hub
- Reporting daily activities and attendance of community youth as directed by the Youth Hub Manager
- Promotion of Events at the Youth Hub through the Communication Coordinator
- Follow all organizational policies and procedures
- Aid in the training of volunteers
- Other duties as assigned
Skills needed for success:
- Computer literacy skills, including MS Word, Excel and email required
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- A strong sense of compassion and patience
- Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills.
- Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff and client privacy.
- Professional appearance and manners.
Conditions of Employment:
- Interacts with the youth, family members, staff and visitors and to the Youth Hub.
- Overtime as required.
- Intermittent physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting youth.
- Successful candidate must provide a satisfactory CPIC and vulnerable sector check.
